Music Wristbands go on sale for SXSW 2014

Thursday, January 16th, 2014

The SXSW Music team have announced the wristband sale for 2014. The first batch of the bands that give local residents access to the music showcases are on sale for $169 per wristband, with a maximum of two wristbands able to be purchased by any individual.

Do read the terms and conditions carefully, you need to have a credit card registered in a limited number of postcode areas, and the name on the credit card must match one of the names associated with a wristband.

The wristbands are not a substitute for a SXSW Music badge. They are intended for Austin locals so they can experience the music of the festival at a reduced cost compared to the visitors to the city, or those attending the Conference sessions. IN essence the lower price and restricted availability means the wristbands could be seen as a ‘thank you for letting us cause all this havoc in Austin’.

If you’re ready to buy, head over to wristbands.sxsw.com.

Details on the Music Wristbands for SXSW 2013

Thursday, January 17th, 2013

The much sought after ‘wristbands’ for SXSW Music are now on sale. As before, the wristbands are not a substitute ticket for people coming to Austin for the music, or an alternative to a music badge. They are intended for the residents of Austin to thank them for hosting the hordes in their city.

So, the usual conditions apply – you’ll need to pay by credit card (and this year all advance sales are going to be made online), the card used must be associated with a billing address that has an Austin zip code, and wristbands are limited to two per customer… one specifically for the credit card holder, and a second for a named person (who must be nominated as you buy the wristband).

The wristband costs $159 inc. sales tax, and once purchased can be picked up at the Austin Convention Center… where they’ll be clipped on to you immediately.

As for using them, there is an order as to how this works. When you reach a venue and want to go in during SXSW Music, the priority order is…

  • Platinum Badge Holders.
  • Music Badge Holders.
  • Wristband wearers.
  • General admission (if available, cover charges may apply)

All the rules, regulations, and payment details are at wristbands.sxsw.com.

Music Wristbands now on sale for SXSW 2012

Thursday, February 2nd, 2012

Details on wristbands for SXSW Music 2013 can be found here.

Wristbands for SXSW Music are going on sale this morning, starting at 10am Austin time. The full details are online at wristbands.sxsw.com, but the two most important things about the wristbands are this…

1. You can only buy two.
One of them must be for the person named on the credit card that purchases the wristbands, the other must be nominated at the time of purchase. ID will be needed when picking up the wristbands from Registration in march, and they will be placed on your wrist at that point in time.

2. They are for Austin residents.
The address on the credit card must be in a local zipcode (the official list is here). Although the ‘plus one’ can be from anywhere the first wristband must be for a local.

The wristbands should always be thought of not as a part of everyone’s SXSW Music, but as a way for SXSW to do outreach to local music fans in Austin, and as a thank you for letting the conference take over the city. A music badge is currently  $700, and the wristband price is considerably less… the first 2000 advance wristbands will sell at $149 inc tax, the next 2000 will sell for $175 inc tax, with a walk-up rate of $225 for any that are left over.

All set? Then you can buy your wristbands now!
