The top festivals to change your life include a little slice of Texas

Saturday, January 25th, 2014

Down under in Australia (actually, it’s Down Under in the UK, what do you say in the US? A bit to the side under our feet?)… anyway the point is the Sydney Morning Herald have decided to rattle through ten festival experiences from around the world – all you need is an open mind to attend them.

And what do we find at the top of this list? Good old Southby:

This Texas music festival began in 1987 but the mainstream groundswell of the past interactive decade has seen it expand rapidly.

Choose from a music, interactive or film festival or the offshoot SXSW Edu for education, SXSW Eco for environmental issues and the SXSW V2V conference for innovative start-ups.

Put simply, anyone who is anyone (or might be) has attended, spoken or performed at a SXSW festival – from Mark Zuckerberg to Al Gore, Bob Geldof, Quincy Jones, Robert Plant and Lou Reed.

Good to see the breadth of SXSW included, but the focus is clearly on the music side of things. Clearly the Herald staff haven’t done a midnight movie at the Alamo with some zombie sheep…
