Write your fears down on a piece of paper. Fold it into a pirate hat, put it on your head. There, now you're a pirate [with] no fear.

Austin is full, no more party space being given out

Saturday, February 8th, 2014

Here’s hoping that you’ve got your corporate party space booked for SXSW, because Austin City Council aren’t giving out any more permits. If you’ve left it too late (we’re looking at you, Microsoft), then it’s time to hustle and trade.

That doesn’t mean it’s going to be quiet in Austin. Via My Fox Austin, this year submitted permits for temporary music venues are up 9 (97 in 2013 to 106 in 2014), temporary use permits are also up 9 (to 107), and temporary change of use permits shoot up 26 (from 45 to 71).

There’s probably an out-sized Doritos machine in there as well…

Sched’s SXSW 2012 by the numbers

Friday, April 6th, 2012

Just how big was SXSW this year? Well, Taylor McKnight and the team from Sched (good friends of The Baby!) have put together the numbers of SouthBy attendees using the timetable and planning service they provide.

So what did we go though in March? Over a million page views, eight thousand events, five hundred and fifty-eight venues, and there’s more in Sched’s annual report.

But my favourite number? If you add up all the events at SXSW,and how long they ran for you get the scarily big number of 10,652 hours of Austin events. That’s just over one year two months, and three weeks of content… you wouldn’t be finished by the time SXSW 2013 rolls around!
