Let’s continue our ‘Five questions’ series to introduce you to some of the showcases at SXSW Music with Cello Fury.
1. Tell us a bit about Cello Fury.
Cello Fury is an instrumental progressive rock band from Pittsburgh, PA. We’re a “cello rock powerhouse” featuring three cellists and a drummer. We get to perform in many different kinds of venues, from classical concert halls to NFL halftime shows to music festivals like SXSW. Cello Fury has toured in 25 states, produced two albums of original music, and we love collaborating with dance companies, orchestras, opera, rock bands and singer-songwriters.
2. Why have you decided to showcase to SXSW this year?
There is nothing quite like SXSW; to be immersed in music 24/7, to connect with other performers and music industry folks, and to have the chance to share our own music with thousands of music fans is an amazing experience. We’re honored to be invited back for our 2nd official showcase!
3. Who are your musical influences and heroes?
Our musical influences are pretty diverse, ranging from movie soundtrack composers like Hans Zimmer and Thomas Newman to bands like Muse and Tool, and classical composers like Shostakovich and Sibelius.
4. If our readers could listen to just one of your tracks, which track would it be and why?
Check out “Against All Odds”; we feature improv dancers in the video and it was a fun collaboration. Also, give a listen to our new album, “Symphony of Shadows”, at www.cellofury.com .
5. Who else do you think we should be listening to at SXSW Music 2014?
