Always looking to make improvements, SXSW has announced a large list of changes they’ve made this year to improve the overall experience.
The most important of these could very well be the earlier start time for Interactive Panels on Friday the 7th, moving up from 2pm to 11am.
Other change include:
New Location for Digital Creative Job Market: In 2013, we introduced the Digital Creative Job Market, allowing SXSW attendees to connect with interested employers. In 2014, the Digital Creative Job Market moves to Ballrooms ABC on the first floor of the Austin Convention Center. Days of this event are Thursday, March 6 and Friday, March 7.
More Free Content at the Long Center: This year’s event will offer more free panel content at the Long Center (701 West Riverside Drive) which will be geared towards the video game industry. This venue is located immediately adjacent to the Palmer Events Center, home of the SXSW Gaming Expo.
SXSW Create Moves to the City Terrace at The Long Center : Another new element launched at the 2013 SXSW Interactive Festival was SXSW Create, a free-to-attend space that was geared towards makers, hackers and the DIY Community. In 2014, SXSW Create moves to the City Terrace at The Long Center. This new location will be more convenient for attendees to easily walk across the lawn from SXSW Create to the SXSW Gaming Expo.
Gaming Awards on Saturday Evening: The popularity of video games at SXSW Interactive has grown immensely over the last few years. For 2014, we celebrate this growth with the addition of the SXSW Gaming Awards on Saturday evening, March 8. More details to come shortly.
Accelerator Awards on Sunday Evening: Startups and entrepreneurs from across the United States and around the world come to Austin in March. Much of the startup ecosystem revolves around SXSW Accelerator, a two-day pitch competition for newly-launched applications, companies and services. The winners of this competition will be revealed at the new SXSW Accelerator Awards on Sunday evening, March 9.
More International Startups at Startup Village: With the addition of Startup Village, more and more entrepreneurs are coming to SXSW Interactive. For 2014, look for several more events in this space featuring more innovative startups from around the world.
New Day for the Dewey Winburne Community Service Awards: At SXSW, we also like to honor community do-gooders who make the world better via innovative applications of digital technology. While the Dewey Awards are not a new element, for 2014 we move this ceremony to Thursday evening, March 6. Remember that the Dewey Awards are FREE to attend — a SXSW badge is not needed to enjoy this inspiring evening.
New Sports-Related Track of Programming: The Big Aristotle (Shaquille O’Neal) emerged as one of the most popular speakers at the 2013 SXSW Interactive Festival. In 2014, we build off this momentum with a three-day track of programming related to sports, athletes and popular culture. These sessions will run Friday, March 7 through Sunday, March 9.
New Television-Related Track of Programming: Geek innovation is quickly disrupting and re-inventing the television industry. Learn how content delivery on your TV will continue to change at an all-new track of panels that are scheduled for Monday, March 10 and Tuesday, March 11.
