IA Karaoke 2: Electric Boogaloo
At SXSW 2007, Bryan Busch and I attempted to bring back an IA tradition: the ancient art of karaoke. Back in the day (read: up until the year I started attending), karaoke was the thing to do post-Break Bread with Brad, or so I’ve been told. Sadly, the old venue closed down, and for a few years, the only drunken singing took place at Paradise near closing time.
Bryan and I were determined to bring back the tradition last year. And those in attendance had a pretty good time, if I do say so myself. (Video and photographic evidence exists.) But at the post-mortem (yes, we had a post-mortem...in the cab ride back downtown), we concluded that were hampered by our failure to secure a downtown location for the event. Don’t get me wrong, the folks at Opal Divine’s Penn Field were fantastic to us, and the chicken fingers were quite tasty, but...well, it goes without saying that even with The Brad’s BBwB plug, the 20 minute cab ride from 6th Street probably killed our walk-in traffic.
So, that said, I know I had a lot of fun that evening (my attempt at “Don’t Stop Believing” not withstanding), and I’d like to give it a go again in 2008. Ideally, the plan is to book a location on or near 6th Street, within walking distance of the BBwB venue. Since it’s a little early to post something to Upcoming (or whatever the community-of-choice is by the time SXSWi 08 rolls around), I’m putting the question to the worldwide Baby! readership…
Would you attend IA karaoke 2008?
Let me know in the comments.
