Got a Permit for That?
Most of you have probably heard the controversy over last year’s unofficial Music Festival parties, with complaints about non-SXSW parties getting unfairly shut down by the fire marshall and confusion about proper permits needed. The Austin fire marshal has tried to make things more transparent this year with an official site about proper permits as well as press releases and blog postings, like this one on the Austin Music Source blog. Long story short, if you’re having live music in a location that normally doesn’t have live music, you need a permit. Approximately 50 or so permits were issued for SXSW Music 2008 this year. If you’re throwing a party during Music, hope you all have your permits all in order already! According to KVUE, the City will be inspecting SXSW venues, and they will shut down any events, if they’re not in compliance.
