There’s a lot to see and do at the SXSW conferences and, try though you might, you can’t be everywhere.

That’s where the Notes Exchange Wiki comes in. It’s a place on SXSW Baby! where you can post your notes from a panel session or event and read the notes from other folks who attended things you might have missed.

Together, we can make a great resource for everyone, conference attendees or not, and a reference to share knowledge from past conferences.

How to Use the Wiki

Ideally, there will be a page for each panel or event requiring notes. See the Sample Page for a suggestion of how to format the page.

You may use most HTML to format the page.

At the moment, you may not upload images to the wiki. This may change. You may, of course, link to images you have created or own. Please do not hotlink to images without permission from the owner.

To create a new page, use the Create/Find Page box at right. (You must be a member of SXSW Baby! and logged in to create or edit pages.)

To link to another page on the wiki, enclose its title in double-brackets, like so:

[[Title]]

To assist in organizing information, you should assign each page one or more categories. The basic categories are Interactive, Film and Music (one for each conference, natch).

To assign a category to a page, enclose its name in double-brackets, like so:

[[Category:Interactive]]

Note that case matters ("Category" not “category”, “Interactive” not “interactive").

Of course you may add a page to more than one category simply by adding more than one category assignment:

[[Category:Interactive]]
[[Category:Film]]

The Wiki Guidelines

The rules, such as they are, for using the Notes Exchange Wiki are simple and brief: Be good to the Baby! and the Baby! will be good for you.

The wiki is for notes only, not event promotion. Improperly posted pages may be edited or deleted without notice.

Don’t flack your stuff. This is a space for collaborative sharing of information gleaned from SXSW panels and events, not a place to blow your own horn. (SXSW panelist and moderators are, of course, welcome to contribute. Just remember it’s not all about you!)

Spam, hate speech and other nonsense will be deleted. Let’s all play nicely together.

This wiki does not have discussion pages. Work it out on the wiki or take it to e-mail or private messages.

Most of all, please share! Everyone benefits when everyone shares.

The presentation focused on effective use of wiki spaces to archive notes from new media conferences. Saic mentioned that wikis were particularly well-suited to collaborative editing.

A fist-fight broke out between Cloud and Depree over support of web standards by existing wiki software. It was eventually amicably resolved by a game of Rock, Paper, Scissors.
