Reposting this with updated info (the board got me a roommate for the first few nights, so thanks SXSW Baby!!).

Downtown, conference center Hilton bed - discounted to $100/night! (3/16-3/19)

I’ve got a free queen bed in a non-smoking room at the top floor of the Hilton, with access to the executive lounge with breakfast in morning, drinks and snacks in evening. This is the best hotel for the conference and in the heart of downtown.

http://www1.hilton.com/en_US/hi/hotel/AUSCVHH-Hilton-Austin-Texas/index.do

Room rate comes to $164/person assuming an even split, but I’m willing to eat some costs to get this room share done with.

So $100/night gets you the bed - currently available the nights of 3/16-3/19 (checking out 3/20).

I’m a very clean web/software consultant from NYC (male, 35. gf is stuck back in NYC working).

What do Billy Bragg, The Foo Fighters, The British Music Embassy, the Strummerville family and legendary British filmmaker Don Letts have in common? All of these tastemakers in film and music will be celebrating Strummerville’s debut at this year’s SXSW Music and Film Festival.

Strummerville is a proactive charity, set up by family and friends in the wake of Joe Strummer’s death in 2002. Since then it has built a strong community network - offering otherwise unfunded bands and solo performers the chance to record, rehearse and play live. A regular feature at Festivals in the British Summer season, Strummerville’s work goes on all year internationally. Offering mentoring services, a magic bus on loan for gigs and tours, partnering with projects from Belfast to Bogota and a range of charities including The Amber Trust (helping blind and partially sited children enjoy music) and Jail Guitar Doors (helping prisoners gain access to guitars) Strummerville insures the spirit of the man who inspired its creation lives on in the most practical manner.

March 2010 marks Strummervilles’ debut at the internationally renowned SXSW Music and Film festival:

On the evening of Monday 15th March Strummerville will takeover the British Music Embassy. Hosted by Chris Shiflett of the Foo Fighters the night will feature performances from the infamous ‘National Treasure’ Billy Bragg in addition to some of Strummerville’s finest bands: Get Cape Wear Cape Fly, Smokey Angle Shades, Beans on Toast, Nat Jenkins, The Good The Bad, and The Supernovas.

Music has the power to transport us: to carry us to mysterious places and explore new worlds.

On Flood, Moreland & Arbuckle’s debut release on Telarc International, a division of Concord Music Group, the rootsy, hard-driving group from Kansas takes music itself to places it’s never been. Featuring mostly original tunes, Flood presents a dynamic mix of thirteen acoustic and electric songs, each performed with all the subtlety of a passing freight train.

Ever since guitarist Aaron Moreland first met singer/harpist Dustin Arbuckle at an open mic jam in Wichita in 2001, Moreland & Arbuckle have established themselves as a force to be reckoned with. Along with Brad Horner on drums, the group features Moreland playing everything from National steel to a cigar box guitar, and Arbuckle singing and playing harmonica.

Moreland & Arbuckle are traditionalists and innovators at the same time, merging old school Chicago and Delta blues with garage rock sensibilities. While Arbuckle was mostly influenced by the Mississippi blues, traditional country music and bluegrass, Moreland grew up listening to everyone from Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath to Charlie Patton and Muddy Waters.
