SXSW generates half the revenue of the Superbowl
Friday, February 17th, 2012Some scary-big numbers from SXSW Interactive’s Hugh Forrest at last week’s ‘Leadership Austin’ event.
These figures [$167 million in revenue for Austin businesses] have steadily increased over the last few years, and to put that in context, that’s about half of the revenue of a Super Bowl. SXSW certainly brings in a lot of hotel revenue and restaurant revenue—it generates a lot of money, and that’s a good thing. I think these revenues will increase in 2012 as we grow across the board.
Forrest also touched on the SXSW badge prices, revenues for music clubs, and the new SXSWedu strand. Impact News reports on the event, and the resulting roller coaster that SXSW puts Austin through every year.
