The NeverEnding SXSW

Tuesday, October 1st, 2013

It seems as though we’ve only just recovered fully from the inaugural SXSW V2V in Las Vegas and we realize that SXSW Eco is next week! We’ve heard countless people describe reconnecting with old friends at the annual conference and festival in March as a high school reunion of sorts. To be truthful, living in the Austin area, there are people I only see at SXSW, but it wouldn’t be Southby without them there.

Some final thoughts on V2V, it was one of the best SXSW experiences we’ve ever had, most memorable is the the edification we received on all things BitCoin on the bus ride to an evening event. As we’ve always said the best networking doesn’t happen at parties, it happens in hallways or in places where you least expect it.

With SXSW Eco right around the corner, we’ll be gearing up with some recommendations on the panels and keynotes that jump off the page at us, along with our daily updates duriing the Conference on best bets for the day.

All Rested and Ready to Start Again?

Tuesday, March 19th, 2013

Now that the wonderment that is all things SXSW is complete, are you rested and well enough to start all over?

In case you missed it (and all that was going on, I’m sure a lot of you did) both SXSW Eco and SXSW V2V had launch parties during the March event.

SXSW Eco
SXSW Eco takes place from October 7–9, 2013 at the Austin Convention Center. This is a move from the AT&T Conference Center used last year and the Hilton Downtown the inaugural year (they grow up so fast!), and is currently accepting Panel Picker submissions for the event.

Public voting on SXSW Eco Panel Picker will run from Monday, May 13, 2013 through Friday, May 24, 2013 (11:59 PM CST).

SXSW V2V
SXSW V2V takes place Sunday, August 11, 2013 through Wednesday August 14, 2013 at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas in Las Vegas, Nevada, and is currently accepting session, speaker and mentor ideas through April 5, 2013 and V2Venture entries until May 17, 2013.

So, now that you’re all rested and back to normal, are you ready to get your Southby back on?
We are!

Recommended Film: “TINY: A Story About Living Small” Documentary Spotlight

Friday, March 1st, 2013

TINY: A Story About Living Small was already on our “must see” list of films at SXSW this year, but having seen the screener, we have to say that you too, must see this film.

With beautiful cinematography, stunning landscapes shown through all the seasons, and personal stories about life, it’s meaning, and how one lives it, this film is a touching portrayal of one man’s desire to define his home.

And as it has an environmental aspect, we’d love to see it screen at SXSW Eco this fall as well.

What is home? And how do we find it? TINY follows one couple’s attempt to build a Tiny House from scratch with no building experience, and profiles other families who have downsized their lives into houses smaller than the average parking space. Through homes stripped down to their essentials, the film raises questions about sustainability, good design, and the changing American Dream.

Presented by SXSW Eco

Showtimes are as follows:

  • Saturday, March 9th @ 5pm at the Rollins Theatre
  • Monday, March 11th @ 11:30am at the Alamo Village
  • Wednesday, March 13th @ 3:45pm at the Alamo Ritz 1
