SXSW and Austin, the $200 million bonanza
Following a similar pattern to previous years, the SXSW team have commissioned an economic impact report from Greyhill Advisors on the benefits of SXSW to Austin. Even with that caveat, the estimate of $218.2 million dollars is significant.
Other numbers to pull out include a combined ‘badged’ attendance of 155,000, with an addition 150,000 participants attending badgeless events (such as Flatstock and the SXSW Gaming Expo), $129.9 million dollars spent by attendees at SXSW; and the average hotel room jumping by 20% to an average rack rate of $255 per night.
